  • Intro to Rally Obedience Training Class

Rally obedience is a great way to build teamwork, improve obedience skills, and strengthen your bond with your dog. This class will cover the foundations of rally, including heeling, turns, rear end awareness, focus work around distractions, and how to navigate a rally course with confidence. Whether you’re looking to try something new or interested in competing, these training classes are a great place to start! Topics included: -build on loose leash walking skills and introduce formal heeling -improving focus around distractions -introduce obedience skills such as fronts, finishes, and position changes -explanation of different organizations (CKC, AKC, CWAGS, some CARO, etc). -introduction to rally trial preparation, course running/sign sequencing, what to expect at your first trial **Curriculum may be modified for the skill level of the students in the current class Dogs must be 6 months or older to participate in this class. Prerequisites: -Basic obedience (sits, downs, understanding of marker training, some leash walking skills) -Experience in another group class is recommended but not required. This class is NOT suitable for reactive dogs or dogs who bark excessively. I am happy to help these types of dogs in private lessons! Needed for class & homework: -a cot, crate, or bed to help your dog settle in class if needed -lots of tasty, high value treats (super small pieces) or high value toys -pivot bowl (approx. 6-9" diameter and 4-6" tall, horse feed rubber bowls are an awesome cheaper option) for practicing at home! **There will be NO dog-dog interactions or greetings in the class or on the property. It is your responsibility to ensure your dog does not approach other dogs - please be mindful of how long your leash is. This is a general rule of any dog sport event and is good practice for future trialing.
